About the Book

The track covered by Tripuri and the adjacent areas, recognized as the Land of the Chedis is undoubtedly one of the oldest regions known to Indian tradition. The site came into prominence when inscribed coins with legend Tipuri were discovered in explorations and excavations. Earlier, the discovery of the Rupnath edict of Asoka had proved domiance of Mauryan rule over this region. Numismatic evidences have proved the rule over this region during the post-Mauryan period by the Satavahanas, the Bodhis, the Dattas, the Senas, the Maghas, the Guptas and their feudatories. It was in the middle of 9th century A.D., that the Kalachuries established their rule over this region and made Tripuri as their capital, the golden chapter in the history for the entire central India. Many issues related to the decline and fall of this dynasty are discussed by the author with latest archaeological evidences. It covers both the political and cultural history of Tripuri.
